UDIN ANTARA

Udin Antara was born in Tulungagung, East Java, on 13 August 1968. Although he graduated in 1989 as a machine technician at Sekolah Teknik Mesin (STM, High School of Mechanical Technology), his true calling was in painting. So in 1990, Udin moved to Bali to pursue a career in art where he found many subjects to inspire him along with a thriving market and contacts for art. While living in Bali, he improved his skills and techniques through experience and experimentation.

Yet in spite of his love for Bali and its culture, Udin needed to distance himself from the island to fully bloom as a painter. In 2001 he moved to Bandung, West Java, where he continues to live and work today. The artist visits Bali once in a while to refresh his memory of the images there. Udin has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Indonesia and abroad in Florida, USA. He also took part in Art Singapore in 2007 and 2008.

By experimenting with photographs over the years, by 1994 Udin had developed his own style of painting. It is a combination of realism with an impression of dreamy unreality, achieved by mostly using brownish tones that are reminiscent of old sepia photographs.
